My first day on the baking and pastry side was interesting, fun, and challenging. I definitely feel like a n00b though. Luckily, my classmates made the cake parts yesterday so all we had to do was the apricot glaze for the cheesecake, coffee flavored simple syrup and chocolate butter cream for the devils food cake, and then make the lemon tart filling and toppings. I got to practice new skills like spreading the frosting layers on the cakes, slicing them into 12 and 10 pieces evenly and cleanly, decorating with sauces, and pastry piping. More to come tomorrow!
