My mom enjoyed the first time I made homemade hummus and had repeatedly asked for it again and again — leaving out the chickpeas as a subtle hint or reminder to make it. Made this with organic canned chickpeas/garbanzo beans, but I have a whole 5lb bag of dried ones to go through next. For a simple hummus recipe, see below.

Homemade Hummus

1 15 oz can of garbanzo beans/chickpeas
1/4 cup tahini
2 tsp salt
1/4 cup of water OR garbanzo water reserve from the can
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tsp salt
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp turmeric
3 garlic cloves (roast them for a more robust flavor)
1/4 cup of olive oil (reserve 1 tablespoon for drizzle at the end)
1/2 tsp paprika for garnish
1/2 tsp parsley for garnish

1. Put all ingredients in food processor with steel blade and blend until smooth in consistency.
2. Garnish with parsley, paprika, and olive oil.
